How to induce autophagy and the benefits of it!

I have been a little bit obsessed with autophagy lately. 

It is the missing link in anti-aging.  

Have you heard of the Autophagy Nobel Prize?

What is autophagy? 

“It is the cellular cleansing process that removes the toxins in our cells and repairs the damage left behind.” – Naomi Whittel

The word autophagy means “self-eating”. Basically when we stop giving our bodies food for a certain amount of time, our cells begin to eat themselves for nutrition and they get rid of unnecessary components. 

It is an organized method that occurs naturally but its effectiveness declines with age.

Cells consume their own waste and non-functional material and use it as a powerful source of energy. 

Think of daily living as cooking and of autopahy as cleaning the kitchen. You can’t constantly clean the kitchen without having cooked or vice-versa. They are both necessary. 

It is extremely beneficial for us to intermittent fast and induce autophagy several times a week. It makes our cells stronger, vibrant, and more efficient, and this is why people who fast a lot end up looking younger. 

Removing the toxic proteins from the cells that are attributed to neurodegenerative diseases, such as Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s disease is one of the most important benefits. 

How to induce autophagy: 

Intermittent Fasting (do not eat for 16 hours 3 times a week. ex: from 8 pm to 12 pm the following day). 

Put your body in a state of ketosis. 

Exercise (especially while you are fasting).

Get a massage while you are fasting. 

Some polyphenols that will restore your youth andactivate your autophagy are: 

ECEG which is found in green tea. It boosts longevity, helps lose weight, helps fight cancer, and improves brain function. 

Berberine whichproduces the same biological effects of exercise. I take a Berberine supplement every day. It burns fat, it reduces cholesterol and blood sugar, it improves gut health, and it improves lung health by reducing inflammation in the lungs and helps reduce injury related to cigarette smoking. 

Resveratrol-Trans which increases cerebral blood flow, it controls your appetite, it is anti-inflammatory, and it is amazing for heart health. Drink a glass of red wine, eat some dark chocolate, eat a mouthful of peanuts, eat some blueberries… they all contain resveratrol.
